Brehm Preparatory School, Inc., currently has two openings for a Student Life Support Staff. Successful candidates will have excellent customer services skill, flexibility, be student-centric, have an outgoing nature, and must be outcome-oriented.

Position Overview:

The Student Life Support Staff works closely with the Director of Student Life and other departments to provide quality service for our students and to ensure that there is coverage for Dorm Parents, Lead Assistant Dorm Parents, Assistant Dorm Parents, and Tutors.  The Student Life Support Staff provides instructional and behavioral support for students and helps facilitate training in Blackbaud and data collection as requested and scheduled daily by the Director of Student Life.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide coverage for boarding staff when needed i.e. (absentee in dorms) supersedes all other responsibilities
  • Monitor and support the Positive Reward Program
  • Monitor student community service work hours
  • Evening transportation for students to such activities as extracurricular, Groups, Clinicians etc.
  • Direct supervision overnight when needed
  • Dorm inspections during school hours
  • SAC supervision of students in the evening
  • Provide supervision of student during campus forum
  • All other duties as assigned by the Director and Associate Director of Student Life
  • Provides remediation in living skills and study skills to help students meet their goals

Knowledge and Experience Requirements:

  • Boarding or residential experience preferred
  • Working knowledge of learning disabilities, learning styles, and life skill strategies
  • Knowledge of policies, protocols, systems, and procedures established to enhance student programming
  • Knowledge of organizational structure, workflow, and operating procedures
  • Familiarity with child & adolescent development a plus
  • Working knowledge of the greater Southern Illinois area
  • Knowledge of GSuites, a plus
  • Have knowledge in the area of learning differences, and an understanding of practices used to aid in helping them find success, problem-solving, and overall wellness
  • Prior experience working with students
  • Conflict resolution and mediation experience

Supervision of Others:

  • Supervise students
  • Provides Blackbaud training for other staff

Educational Requirements: 

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • Associates Degree or higher in a field related to Physical Fitness, Recreational Therapy, or similar, preferred

 Working Hours and Conditions

  • 40 hours per week with additional compensation for any overnight shifts worked
  • Hours will vary between mornings, evenings and weekend based on the need of the School
  • Travel away from home may be required
  • Holidays as required

Conditions of Employment:

  • Ability to pass a background check
  • Ability to pass a driving background check
  • Ability to pass a physical exam
  • Valid vehicle insurance

Physical Demands:

  • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds
  • Stamina for long working hours
  • The position is very active and may require frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, climbing and lifting
