DIRECTOR OF HUMAN RESOURCES

Position Overview

Under general supervision of the Head of School, plans and oversees all human resources functions. Directly participates in departmental administrative decision-making; establishes, implements, and enforces policies and procedures, and sets workflow priorities and standards. Performs tasks, which require advanced skills in organization, computer software and planning, in-depth knowledge of operations and objectives, and overall knowledge of other departments.

Responsibilities

  • Works collaboratively with supervisors for hiring, firing, performance evaluation, training, work allocation, and problem resolution needs
  • Assists in resolving problems related to day-to-day operations
  • Plans, develops, and coordinates the execution of policy, procedures, and operations; monitors compliance with policies, procedures, regulations, and appropriate laws
  • Oversees payroll time cards, leave documents, and other employment documents.
  • Maintains HRIS database 
  • Coordinates department training
  • Serves as a member of the Administrative Team, Crisis Management Committee, Risk Management Committee, COVID Task Force and participates in Board Meetings
  • Acts as 403B Administrator, inform new staff of benefits, maintains paperwork; informs plan of employee changes and terminations.
  • Manages unemployment claims, job references, public aid paperwork, student loan documents, etc.
  • Reviews and updates to the Personnel Policies and Procedures Manual
  • Creates and updates job descriptions as needed
  • Creates and posts open job positions, reviews applications as needed
  • Assists with compiling data for the various audits
  • Oversee and manage all employee benefits
  • Works with insurance agents as necessary
  • Ensures required postings are up to date
  • Manages department of labor claims or similar
  • Manages Work comp claims

Experience Requirements

  • Experience in a human resources generalist position
  • Supervisory experience
  • Demonstrated experience with employment laws
  • Experience with ADP's Workforcenow platform
  • Demonstrated experience with benefits management

Education and Certifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in human resources or related field
  • HR Certification preferred

Conditions of Employment 

  • Possess and maintain a valid Illinois driver's license with a clean driving record and valid personal vehicle insurance, preferred
  • Ability to meet ISBE employment requirements including a background check, TB test, and physical exam

Working Details  

  • Full-time, 12-month Business Administrative employee
  • Exempt
  • Benefits Eligible
  • This position is required to work from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
  • No travel away from home required
