Brehm Preparatory School, Inc., currently has openings for a Janitor. Successful candidates will have excellent customer services skill, flexibility, and must be outcome-oriented.

Position Overview:

Responsible for cleaning buildings, removing debris, and keeping areas neat and tidy. Vacuums and buffs floors, shampoos carpets, empties trash receptacles, and replace lining of trash cans. Responsible to keep our buildings and grounds in a clean and orderly condition.

 Skills Required:

  • Proven working experience as a cleaner
  • Ability to handle heavy equipment and machinery
  • Knowledge of cleaning chemicals and supplies
  • Familiarity with Material Safety Data Sheets
  • Integrity
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Able to deal with prospective families while they are on-site for a visit while cleaning is being performed
  • Ability to work within a team where members depend on each other to get work done
  • Organization of resources and establishment of priorities
  • Superior time management, attention to detail, and follow through
  • Good judgment skills with an ability to solve practical problems
  • Comfort and efficacy operating independently or with supervision
  • Quick and efficient responsiveness when urgency is required

 Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Dust furniture, equipment, partitions, walls, picture frames, etc.
  • Clean and disinfect sinks, countertops, floors, toilet, mirrors, tables, chairs, refrigerators, microwaves, etc. in restrooms, break rooms, and kitchens
  • Replenish supplies in restrooms, break rooms, and kitchens
  • Sweep, mop, vacuum and/or hand scrub floors using brooms, mops and vacuum cleaners
  • Empty trash cans and recyclables into disposal areas
  • Wipe down walls and woodwork, doors, wall hangings, baseboards, etc.
  • Identify potential safety or maintenance issues and communicate them to the Director of Facilities.
  • Arrive to work at scheduled time, perform duties to established standards and insure the buildings are locked and secured when you finish and leave
  • Handle special projects, as appropriate and assigned, and report to the Director of Facilities of their completion
  • Comply with all safety policies and procedures relating to performance of tasks, use of products or supplies and incident reporting
  • Steam-clean carpets, vehicles and upholstered furniture
  • Clean windows, glass partitions, and mirrors, using soapy water or other cleaners, sponges, and squeegees
  • Scrub surfaces clean
  • Apply wax to coat floors and buff
  • Apply sealant to floors
  • Mow lawn, trim shrubbery, plant flowers, and apply pesticides
  • Perform and document routine inspection and maintenance activities
  • Move heavy equipment and furniture
  • Shovel snow from sidewalks and sidewalks and sprinkle salt on surfaces
  • Carry out the heavy cleansing task and special projects

 Supervision of Others:

  • None

Knowledge and Educational Requirements: 

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required

 Experiential Requirements:

  • Experience in a service environment is preferred, but not required

 Working Hours and Conditions

  • Full-Time, year-round position
  • Early afternoon and evening hours, generally from 3:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m., Monday - Friday
  • Some weekends required throughout the academic year
  • No overnight travel away from home required

 Conditions of Employment:

  • Ability to pass a background check
  • Ability to pass a driving background check
  • Ability to pass a physical exam
  • Valid vehicle insurance

 Physical Demands:

  • Ability to safely lift 50 lbs overhead.
  • Physical demands include walking and standing, climbing, bending, kneeling, push and pull objects, lift and move objects, repetitive bending and lifting, and repetitive arm movements.
