Recreational Staff

Recreational Staff works directly with the students in a hands-on capacity while the students participate in various activities such as bowling, hiking, swimming, fishing, building robots, shopping, exercising, movie viewing, video game playing, paintballing, arts and crafts, designing, talent showcasing, basketball, cooking, and playing music. Recreational Staff is also responsible for the safety, well-being and enjoyment of the students while they participate in the recreational activities.

Responsibilities:

  • Supervise students and actively participate in assigned recreational activities
  • Maintain schedule of activities and discuss any proposed changes immediately with supervisor
  • Maintain open communications through individual and group discussions and meetings with staff
  • Represent the School in a professional manner
  • Set an example for students.  Such behavior includes, but is not limited to: being prompt, professional, responsible, refrain from using profanity, cleaning up one's self, etc.
  • Complete written reports as requested, documenting communication, issues, complaints, core behaviors, and resolutions
  • Complete required administrative tasks such as time cards, purchase orders, and vehicle check logs
  • Ensure all receipts, keys, credit cards and money is turned in at the end of each shift
  • Ensure safety of students while participating in recreational activities including ensuring they are properly restrained in vehicles
  • Ensure company vehicles are kept neat and clean after each outing and report any vehicle issue to direct supervisor
  • Participate in all required meetings of staff and use given communication systems
  • Read and respond to emails daily when working
  • Support, uphold, and enforce all School policies
  • Assume any other responsibilities deemed necessary for the benefit of the School

Experience:

  • Prior experience working with students
  • Experience with conflict resolution and mediation, a plus
  • Prior residential/boarding/camp experience

Minimum Education Required:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • Pursuing a higher educational degree in an area such as human service, outdoor recreation, physical education, psychology, physical training, social work, speech and language, or educational related field, preferred

Travel:

  • No travel away from home required

Conditions of Employment:

  • Ability to pass a criminal background check
  • Ability to pass a driving background check
  • Valid Illinois driver's license
  • Valid vehicle insurance
  • Ability to maintain clean driving record
  • Ability to maintain a valid Illinois driver's license
  • Ability to become CPR certified

Working Conditions:

  • Indoors and outdoors, on and off campus
  • 10-Month, academic year
  • Monday through Friday - Hours will fluctuate between mornings and evenings
  • Sunday and Saturday - Hours will fluctuate between mornings, days and evenings
  • Holiday hours during the academic year when students are on campus

Physical Requirements:

  • Position is very active and may require frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, climbing and lifting
